And 'neutral' doesn't have to be plain black or white; but teal seems too, uhm, candy-colored to me.
I'd abstain from the javascript gimmick; it IS really a gimmick because it does not give extra info. The blown-up thumbnails are grainy, and are there anyway (have you ever thought about using title graphics where we can actually *see* the piercings in question ;> - the cart piercing as well as the industrial on test.html are not visible).
Javascript can be very neat if you, for instance, only display images and the descriptions are only revealed 'onMouseOver' (or, of course, the other way round):
