My question has to do with the use of tattoos in covering up skin discolorations. For several years now I've gotten stretch marks due to weight lifting and was wondering if there was anyway to cover them up by having a tattoo done.

Ideally I would prefer to color them back to skin color since I have them on my shoulders and on my back. However I am open to the idea of having regular design tattoos done and would like to hear from anybody with any experience that realates to my problem. Any advice would also be appreciated.

I'm certainly not the expert, but I do know you have to be careful about tattooing over stretch marks. I recently had a tat done on my stomach (it goes over one pretty good stretch mark). The artist said that when you are inking on top of a stretch mark, it has a tendancy to bleed more and if a bad enough scar, can tear the skin. Mine worked out great, but it was a bit more painful when he was working on top of it.

Secondly, however, I'm curious as to why you're getting stretch marks from weight lifting. In all the time I've trained people in lifting weights at my gym, I've never seen a person get stretch marks from it.

One thing to think about this is that if you do tattoo the stretch marks back to your original color, they won't tan with the rest of you during the summer. They will stay whatever color the tattoo ink is...so say you get tanned on your arms or whatever, you may end up with large pale streaks the shape of stretch marks.
