I had to go to court today to serve jury duty, i thought there was no way they would pick me to serve, not with 7/16' holes in my ears and tattoo's on my arms, boy was i wrong, the picked me, but it only lasted for about an hour, lucky me...

I'm on jury duty too, but we are on call for a month. We have to call in every day to see if we have to report. I was only called once. I'm paranoid, so I was looking around and decided no one was my peer so I was glad I wasn't on trial. But the trial was for blackmail with county officials and stuff so I wasn't their peers either. It was too boring anyway. Nikki 'Stan' <wrote in message

Heh. Well, I work for the government, but only indirectly. Such is the life of government contract workers. In any event, they just don't like me for some reason. They didn't like me even when I worked for other companies. Other scientist/engineer/nerd types I know have had similar experiences. The word on the street is that they just don't like people who think rationally. I guess they just sense that I'm the Voice of Reason and they figure that I'll just look at the evidence and ignore all the lawyer's blatherings. [Which is exactly what I would do if I ever got on an actual jury.]

when i got called, the prosecutor was giving me dirty looks until she found out that i had worked closely with three different police departments on a daily basis for the last five years or so. then she seemed to like me a lot more. the guy was up for assaulting a police officer. he dismissed me before i could even stand up }.

peace

I went in for Federal jury duty dressed up all nice & neat, but with a nice green mohawk.

I didn't get picked. But I was home by noon. Wahoo.

I honestly think it had less to do with my hair than my age. Everyone they picked was much older.

I had the fascinating experience of talking to a prosecutor after the trial ended (plea bargain in a murder case). She said that she selected me because I would have probably had to go to an urban area to get my engineering degree, and would probably be used to violence and crime and would be more likely to want to see the defendant dead or in prison for a long time. She was right. I was the only juror favoring 1st degree murder when the trial ended.

Grifter sends:

This is true...but he and I are oh, 3000-plus miles apart...as my bud Nick J. Dundee would say, 'na worries, mate.'
