Kat Von D conceived the dream of a creating a tattoo, music, art and lifestyle festival she called MUSINK. After that dream was executed at its February 2008 debut in Orange County, Von D decided to turn the event into a traveling festival that now spans 25 different cities.

The first annual OC MUSINK in 2008 attracted more than 15,000 attendees. Over 200 tattoo artists participated, including legendary tattooers Juan Puente, Jack Rudy, Nikko Hurtada, Kari Barba, Rick Walters, Clay Decker, and many others. Three renowned bands performed on the music main stage, The Used, Tiger Army, and Steel Panther.

Allen found a great way to measure a tattoo, he hold up a ruler to the piece when he takes a picture of it. That’s it.

After transferring the images to his computer, he opens up Photoshop.
Create a new file (File > New). For a new document, he uses the Photoshop Preset: U.S. Paper. (Size - Letter) This creates a standard 8.5″ by 11″ sheet at a 300 dots per inch resolution.

Next, he opens the image he wants and drag it onto the new document. Making sure the rulers are showing (View - Rulers) he clicks on the ruler and drag/pull a guide down to the the upper line of the tattoo. And he drag another down to the bottom line of the tattoo.

A great tattoo placement idea are the knuckles. This makes a permanent, strong statement and serves as a constant reminder of the symbolism or phrasing that you’ve chosen to get inked.

Although there is still a strong prejudice against hand tattoos as somehow being gang-related, the stigma is slowly being lessened as tattooing has continued to grow in mainstream culture. One hand-specific fad that got its started in Western culture are knuckle tattoos.
