I'm looking for a piercing professional around the Pontiac/Waterford area in MI that will do a labret for a 17 yr. old minus parental permission. I know this is a bad thing but I have wanted this piercing for a long time and my parents refuse to even discuss the matter with me. I do not want to try piercing myself and would very much appreciate advice on this.

OK, two things:
1. Your parents won't let you do it, so how do you plan on hiding a labret from them? It's kind of, like, on your face and stuff. Do you think that if you get it done without their permission they will suddenly magically change their minds and decide that they love facial piercings?
2. You're 17! It's just one more frickin' year! It's really not that long to wait.

<gasp> I want to see a pict of one if you have a few links Dingo. Never seen one before I don't think. And yes, wait till your 18. It's not that far away. I'm underage and want mor mods, my parents are VERY aginst them. I talked them into eyebrow finally (well my mom anyway) and more ear peircings. If they are aginst it because they want you to be able to hold a good job ect, and you still want a peircing bad consider something hidable, navel ect. And imho a years not that far away, I have two and a half to go till I can get my tattoo... As far as I'm concerned it just gives me more time to think about what I want and what would best match my personality. Oh, and don't do it yourself, go to a prof. <nod> blabbering on again.. <grin>

Just wondering when you will turn 18? Do yourself a favor and wait. If you go to a shop that will pierce you you w/o parental consent, it will likely be a shop with a bad reputation. Don't you wonder what else they might be cheating on? Like sterilization, maybe? Quality of the metal about to be shoved through your body? I would wonder.
Just wait. It's less than a year. Your life will be so much easier if you

Haley Gilbert sends:
I'm surprised the 8 year old's teacher hasn't called Child Protective Services about this situation already. It's not just the shop that needs busting, it's that idiot mother.
We read all the time on this list about the 14-year-olds who find shops to ink them without parental consent. An eight-year-old isn't just going to waltz into a tattoo shop and get ink.

I think maybe the mother was a friend of the shop owner. Like I said, I am going to try to do some more investigating. If I knew who the mother was, I'd turn her sorry ass in to CPS immediately. I can't imagine what that child will go through. The really bad thing is, the shop has expanded, and now has 2 shops in the area! I only know one person who is happy with what she has gotten from that shop. Obviously, it's only because she doesn't know any better. I just don't understand. It blows my mind. I forgot to mention in my original post the sixteen year old girl who got a genital tattoo from Bad Shop. Ugh.

Uhm, CPS? Sure, allowing your 8yr old kid get a tattoo is stupid and arguably wrong, but is this *really* something into which CPS needs to intervene? IMO far worse things are happening that demand CPS's attention. Maybe I'm missing something here...

Any 'artist' (term used loosely here) who would tattoo an 8 year old and then in the same shop a 16 year old (on the genitals) needs to be hurt badly. Couldn't the 'artist' who tattooed a 16 year old on her genitals be charged with child molestation?

I feel like it falls under abuse/neglect. I also feel that if the mother is allowing (forcing?) the child to get tattooed, there should certainly be some sort of investigation into what else she may be doing to him, or allowing him to do.

My thoughts _exactly_. I am sure the prom-going teenager will stir up some shit, surely the chaparones and school faculty will see it and start raising hell. Maybe the parents will see it first and we won't have to wait till prom to see some action. I'll keep everyone informed if something does happen.
