What I always wanted to know is, just about how common is it in the US to use some kind of anesthetic for piercings? I recently discovered nearly everyone in Germany does; here in Switzerland, it doesn't seem to be very widespread; I've never done it and probably never will, but that's another thread.

Anesthetic cream, yes. Injectables are less common. Helmut asked me if I wanted some for my rook, and when I said no, he said he was glad to do an 'honest' piercing for a change, and that it was mostly psychological anyways. Hehe .

Perforations in the uk will only pierce ampallangs now minus anaesthetic... Warren has said it's because he wants to keep one piercing 'sacred', as such...

Same here. Helmut couldn't believe I didn't want the cream. He asked back about three times... aaaaand all the other de.rec.misc people present did want him to apply it. That's why I started wondering in the first place...

Not USA, but it's a coincidence that I was going to post a similar question last Saturday, and thought better of it.

I have neither ever requested, nor been offered, an anesthetic for a body modification.

I believe my piercer will not use an anesthetic on a standard client for a standard piercing.

But I have seen some evidence, and heard enough stories, to believe a client would probably have no serious difficulty in finding a piercer who will use a local or topical anesthetic on request.

But it always bugs me that the more that I believe that a piercer may be capable/trained/experienced in the use of local anesthetics, the less inclined they appear to be to use them.

Very few will for any number of reasons.

I sure wish I'd had some anesthetic when I got my reverse PA... Goddamn that hurt. I have no embarrassment admitting that!

That's what I said. And I was damn happy I had that in hand against them... the first thing Phil said when he saw me at the railway station was that I was a slow stretcher. Hey, going from a gunned lobe up to uhm, 4ga & 8ga in a month, is that slow? (they are at 2ga & 6ga now... this is addictive!)
