Tattooing is illegal in SC. And piercing is immoral in SC.

You'll have to hop the border for ink. Can't help you with the piercings.

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any piercers or tattooists in or around Charleston, SC, as I've just moved here. Any help appreciated, thanks!

No tats in SC (yet), but hey, you can now buy beer on Sunday in Charleston County (yeah). Piercings - I recommend Sommerset at Factor Five's downtown location on Meeting St. They also have a shop in N. Chas on Rivers. There's a couple of new shops around, but I haven't checked them out yet. Best bet for ink is Savannah though.

Good luck! Grifter

Check out California Tattoo in Savannah. I know they DO piercings, but can't speak to their quality or technique.... however I have had two tattoos done there (and have taken 4or 5 friends there) and we are all pleased with our work. gd.

I had my nipple pierced there and it was done way too deep. More areola. Not what I asked for. My wife had her navel pierced there too. The dumbass who did it made her stand up, then had to stick the needle through twice cuz he lost it. I've had ink done there and so have a lot of friends. Every time there seems to be a lot of 'attitude' from them. Maybe cuz they're used to dealing with a lot of Army folks from Hunter. Whatever the case, I won't go back there. I hear good thing about Smiling Buddha. Also, there's a shop called Alien there. Record label guy I know had some awesome angelic script done there.

We were very impressed with Planet 3 in Savannah, Georgia. The piercer we talked was very knowledgeable, made us feel very at ease, the piercing room was well set up and hygienic. They also had an excellent selection of jewelry to which we availed ourselves.

Do not let the fact that the piercing is off to the side of an 'Alternative' clothing shop. If we had been ready for a new piercing we certainly would have gotten one there.

enolA sends:

If you don't want to deal with the Georgia tat studios, take I-26 North to I-95, then I-95 North to Fayetteville, NC, and visit Bill Claydon's Tattoo World or Smokin' Guns Tattooing. Both are about a mile from Fort Bragg but they don't just specialize in tattooing GIs (though if you're getting a PA, stay on I-95 to I-40 then go into Raleigh, where the PAs are done to larger than 14 gauge).

Try Factor 5 in Charleston. I have been interacting with them regularly this year.

'Technology is forcing us into professional status whether we want to be professionals or not. One thing that distinguishes a professional from a craftsperson is knowledge of theory, the underlying principles that make the craft work.

A craft is learned by emulation: watching a master perform and then imitating that person. A profession is learned from first principles so that when things change, the professional understands the changes and adjusts techniques to fit. ' ~Philip Meyer, Knight Chair in Journalism UNC Chapel Hill

I actually went to Factor 5 in Charleston just yesterday (to get my eyebrow pierced) and was pretty impressed. I'd recommend them to anyone else around the area.

Thanks for all the help and info.
