Can septum pinchers be 'flipped up' to (sort of) 'hide' them? (I'm looking at the Custom Steel 'neo-tribal pinchers' . Or is a circ. bar. better? I can see how the pinchers might, uh, PINCH!

<<Meghan, how is your circ. bar. working out (esp. re: hiding) in your septum?>>
My circular barbell is working out very nicely. John bent it out a little bit so I could flip it up inside my nose, and it stays put once I flip it. As with any new piercing, if I get too wacky and move the barbell around too much it gets sore; I usually leave it down.
When I wear it flipped up, you can't see it unless you're standing underneath me and looking very intently up my nose. (Needless to say, this doesn't happen much.) It tickled a bit when I wore it up at first, but it stopped after a day or so.
Hope this helps. I'd definitely recommend this option; I don't like the look of a retainer and I'm glad I could get 'real' jewelry that can be hidden. (Thanks to John, who had to go to another shop to get the jewelry because Forbidden Fruit didn't have my size that day.)

Nope.
Which means there must be something horribly wrong with you.

Still nope.

I sort of have that problem. It's really cold here, so my nose runs a lot ****** Kellie kellie.gq.nu

Oops. Hit the send button too early, and have no idea how to unsend a message on AOL. What I was trying to say is that since it's really cold here, my nose runs a lot. I wipe off my CiBB with tissues, but I have to take it out every couple of days and clean it with a q-tip. It's not a noticable build up when wearing it, only when I take it out and look at it.
I hate winter.

I'm no septum expert, of course, but I don't understand all this fuss about retainers. Judith's point sounded valid that the ends could poke you, so I can deal with that. But what don't you like about the look of a retainer while it's in your nose? Can you see it or something? Mine is completely hidden, maybe because I have a high septum pocket (as my piercer said). Please help me become less confused!

I've seen people who wear them flipped down and the ends stick out beyond the edge of the nostril. I think that looks funky (no offense meant to people who wear theirs like this, of course, it's just not my preference). This is what I was referring to:
