i'm having problems with my septum. i got it done over a week ago with a 10 ga horseshoe. i have these bumps on either side of my septum in front of the piercing. i don't have a septum retainer so i have to flip it up in my nose... it's a tight squeeze. i use antibacterial soap and clean the ring but still no hope. anyone have any other suggestions on how to get rid of this problem? thank you.

It sounds like it's keloiding. My advice is to lay off the antibacterial soap a little, because even tho it's great at killing the germs, it's kinda irratating. You should also try sea salt soakes, as funny as it may look, sound, and feel, just fill up a coffee mug with water as warm as you can stand it with some sea salt in it, and dunk your nose in it for 5-10 minutes a day, this should help with the keloids. Also you can go back to your piercer and ask him to use a pair of pliers to open the gap between the balls of your circular barbell so it will flip up easier. Again don't quit using the antibacterial soap, just cut down to once or twice a day. Hope this helps...

IT DOES NOT.
It sounds like it's swelling, or developing a hypertrophic scar.
Shut up about the keloids already, people.

<<I treated it exactly three times over the last 6 weeks with cortisone, since I didn't really like smearing it on a place I couldn't see, and pretty much just left it alone and kept it undisturbed. The tissue came off occasionally, in thick translucent white rings, and now it's just a small protrusion that seems to be diminishing.>>
Did you do anything to remove the tissue, or just let it flake off of its own accord? Did the topical cortisone help any? How old is the piercing?
I have tissue building up on both sides of the bottom hole and on the inside of the top hole of my industrial. I've tried soaking it more, soaking it less, leaving it alone, and 'abusing' it. The tissue shrank while I was on corticosteroids, but it came back. It comes in fits and starts. Whenever I decide to go have John take a look at it, it goes away.
I'm fighing this damn piercing to the death. I'm not giving it up without a struggle. At least my navel pierce is healing well without much effort or any major problems.

i forget, how old is the piercing? if feasible, have him ( JOHN ) take the barbell out of at least 1 hole. put a taper thru the other hole. check to make sure the two holes haven't moved out of alignment with the way the barbell may be bent. if it was never bent, it may need bending now. otherwise, you can try to heal each hole individually for a time and then reinsert the industrial jewelry. just a suggestion.

Don't you have one big barbell in there? Why don't you try healing it with rings or two small barbells?

the only thing that gave me success with cartilage bumps (hypertrophic scarring, keloids, what-have-you) is hydrogen peroxide. that's right, h2o2 left on for a few minutes a couple times a day & then washed off. if you've tried everything else, it's worth a shot.
but then again, my eyebrow flares up if i don't clean it twice a day with a 1:1 water:bactine mix, so who knows.

To answer these questions in some order: The piercing is almost 4 months old. I occasionally picked a little at the flaky tissue, but usually just found it if I touched the ring to push it back into my ear (it flips out a lot). It would be a loose ring of dead stuff around the CBR, detached from me but moving around on the ring as I moved. I would very carefully hold the CBR and try to pull it off without causing myself pain. The cortisone may have helped, but since I barely used it I don't really know. I was worried about getting it the piercing any time it was acting up at all, and also preferred to get someone else to help me see where to put it. So it was a rare event that I used it.
The tissue around both sides of the hole also sort of wax and wane in size, but this absence of much of anything is new. Of course, the stuff around the top pleases me none. I need someone to tell me exactly what it looks like before I even know anything about it besides texture and feel... which is skin-like. FWIW, most of my friends with cart pierces have gone through this and recovered.
I love my daith and hope to keep it. It's not old enough to make a final call on for me, and there are still more options for fighting this tissue problem. My lobes are finally acting fine for long periods of time, so I'm hoping... after having a doctor recommend that I remove it to avoid permanent 'disfiguration' from the scarring, I'm still hanging in there.
