am i the only one who sees enough of a 'modest proposal' quality in this message to suspect it's a fake? allow me to point out a few specific sections.

On Sun, 20 Feb 2000 02:36:02 -0800, 'Morris Dees'

well, are they ignoring race or are they intentionally marrying people of another one?

does the earlier plural use of 'data' (which even computer types hardly ever get right) not jibe somehow with 'many' and 'their computer' and 'site' instead of 'sight?'

this section hardly needs comment, except to note that someone employed by a 'teaching tolerance' organization would perhaps be unlikely to characterize a whole classroom as being full of 'white girls.'

I dunno about this, but I was glad to read recently that the 2000 census will allow people to check off as many races as necessary. As a mixed-race person, I've always been irritated by the fact that forms always required me to check off *one* box to indicate race. Ultimately, race will no longer be a meaningful thing, but that's not going to happen for some time now, so I'm glad that this year's census will at least give us some idea of how many mixed people there are out there. [At least in the U.S., that is.]

The Canadian census has allowed multiple checks for one's ethnic origins for quite a while, but they didn't have a 'check, fill in the blank' until the last census. Because of the large response, there is some talk now that they will finally have a 'Canadian' box.

Yes, I am proud of my heritage, which pretty much works out to Canadian. I have ancestors from multiple continents, but the latest purebreds in the family tree are four generations back, and most are back in the seven or eight stage. My 'old country' is Upper Canada. I'm looking forward to finally being able to give an honest answer on the census.

<snip long OT poem>

In order to refrain from joining Amy on her way to Hell in next week's RANAs, I shall hold any blasphemous comments to myself.

Have a nice day.
