Okay, I have my left nipple and navel all pierced up and decided that I can't get enough of this stuff. I was thinking about getting my tongue pierced and want to know about the procedure as well as any complications that come along with the piercing. How long does it take for the piercing to heal? Is there much pain involved? How susceptible is the piercing to infection? How long does the tongue swell up for? If you have any info or answers that could help me I would appreciate it.

I'll throw in my experience among the flames you'll get for not reading the FAQs <g>. I posted a thread with a day-by-day account of the pierce and healing a while back. I think it was called Tongue Piercing, The Saga Begins... Check deja...

I believe the FAQ says 3-4 weeks. I ate sushi 3 days after having mine done, and was able to eat most foods (albeit carefully) after 2 weeks. Note that I'm not saying that it was completely healed at that point, just that I was able to eat most foods relatively normally.

The actual piercing was relatively painless for me, YMMV. It was much more painful for me the first time I bit down on one of the balls.

Good question. I was pretty diligent with mouthwash and brushing, so I had no signs of infection. Do yourself a favor, and follow the aftercare instructions.

Mine was swollen for 2-3 days, YMMV. Mine didn't balloon up, though. It was just swollen enough that I had teeth marks along the sides.
