thanks but if I ever do it, it will either be a modern medical procedure courtesy of a friendly surgeon or a full-out classic re-enactment with borrowed tools from the mutter (I actually mentioned this to their director, who was reasonably interested). However, I just don't see me doing it soon - perhaps it can be my desperate attempt to rekindle my career when it stalls

Yep, I'm familiar with it. As for acid freakouts, there is a basic over the counter vitamin supplement that will almost immediately relieve a person undergoing a 'bad trip'. This has been easily available info for at least over 25 years. As I like to say (paraphrase quote R.A.W. actually) 'if you can't do the research, you shouldn't do the drug'.

As with most cases, the people affected could generally not give a damn if its a placebo or not. If it is a placebo effect, its still got a greater success rate than any of the other suggestions I have ever heard of or seen put to practice.

Oh me too. Ive never used it myself (because I dont do drugs), but ive heard (not seen, because I dont do drugs) that it can really save the day (second hand info, I dont do drugs) for alot of people (not that I know any of these people, because I dont do drugs). The placebo effect is moot; whether it is or not, it works. Ive actually never seen it *not* work. (not that I would have occassion to see any of this, since I dont do drugs)

I saw it. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that they were treppanning themselves with guidance from a guy whose only experience with treppanning was his own 20 some years ago. And they also used hand tools. I'm sorry, but anything designed to protect the brain should require more than hand tools to cut through.

I most certianly do not.

Well, historically the process goes back for at least thousdands of years, so its not real complicated. And even the most recently modern medical instruments for the procedure looked like something off the wall in a wood shop.
