Hi,

Not a lot of depth to the article
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20000222/od/ fatigue_1.html

I wonder who the camera crew was and when we'll see it on TV

Since Yahoo! removes articles after a few weeks, I'll include the text ...

% I wonder who the camera crew was and when we'll see it on TV

Actually, the other night, I was in my hotel room, and flipping around on the TV, and I heard 'Next on FrontNightDateLine20/20 (or whatever the sensationalist tv mag was): These people believe that by drilling HOLES in their HEADS, they will achieve the ultimate high' or some crap like that. I watched in morbid fascination.

Mostly, it was a show consisting of 'Ooo, aren't these freaky people stupid! They're going to drill holes in their own heads!' In typical fashion, they had snippets of interviews with questions like 'So, you realize that the only medical professional there will be someone with basic EMT training, but you're <gasp> STILL GOING THROUGH WITH THIS?' And none of that bothered me too much, but what -did- bother me was that many of this group of people that were going to self-trepan were pierced muchly, and the show tried to imply a relationship - with a shot of a guy with some lobes that were stretched up to about 1.5', and they said something like, 'With today's body modification fad, these people are going for the ultimate modification.' (or something like that). The upshot was this was a dangerous, unknown, unproven, untested pseudo-medical procedure, and they seemed to lump piercing in with it.

Sorry if that was terribly ineloquent - the caffeine hasn't kicked in yet.
