In Chinese philosophy, the concept of yin yang is used to describe how seemingly opposing forces are bound together, intertwined, and interdependent in the natural world, giving rise to each other in turn. The relationship between yin and yang is often described in terms of sunlight playing over a mountain and in the valley. Yin is the dark area occluded by the mountain’s bulk.

Body Tattoo - blog writes about the yin yang tattoo as away of expressing your self and having a tattoo that means something to you for it being more than just a drawing.

Together they create change. What was dark become light. What was hidden becomes seen. As one grows, the other weakens and as one weakens, the other grows. However one does not grow without keeping with it a part of the other.
